The first Waipā Tech Meetup series has officially wrapped up, marking a successful start to a new initiative aimed at supporting the Waipā district’s growing tech business community.
Four events have been held throughout the first half of 2025, bringing together tech entrepreneurs, industry experts, and business leaders to explore topics ranging from AI and digital tools to funding strategies for startups.
The Waipā District Council has organised the series in partnership with Soda Inc. and Rocketspark, with additional sponsorship provided by several businesses.
Waipā District Council’s economic development advisor, Joy Mickelson, said strong attendance across all four sessions reflected both the momentum of the local growing tech industry and the appetite for connection among people working in the sector.
It’s exciting to see Waipā emerging as a place where innovation is not only happening, but being actively supported,” Mickleson said.
“There is a huge amount of energy and enthusiasm in the Waipā tech community, and each session has sparked meaningful conversations, engagement, and practical takeaways for locals working in the industry.”
She said a short survey has been released to gather feedback and help shape the next series of events.
“We’re excited to have series two already in the works, with more expert panels, networking opportunities, and hands-on learning experiences on the horizon,” she said.
